Welcome to Mini Aussie Rescue & Support (MARS)

MARS is the first rescue group devoted exclusively to Miniature Australian Shepherds. Our goal is caring for, evaluating, and finding new homes for Mini Aussies in need and educating people about these wonderful dogs. MARS assists Mini Aussies of all ages, large and small. We are an all-volunteer organization that relies on donations and fund-raising to support our efforts.

Put those walking shoes on and get ready! MARSwalk is happening on May 17, 2008!!
This is the MOST IMPORTANT fundraiser of the year for MARS. Everyone walks in their own community on the same day across the country to help save Mini Aussies. We have great prizes for walkers. Or if you can’t walk, make a donation and get a gift for helping MARSwalk2008.

Mini Aussie Photo Contest -- Make Your Mini Aussie a Star!

The 6th annual Mini Aussie Photo Contest is going on right now. We’re looking for photos of Mini Aussies of all ages and colors having fun and looking beautiful. Winners will be featured in the 2009 Miniature Australian Shepherd Wall Calendars. Don’t wait --send in your photos today!

MARS is in desperate need of foster homes.
From flooding, fires, people losing their homes to
foreclosure, and a number of puppy mill
confiscations in the East, our available
foster homes are full.

If you have the ability to foster a Mini Aussie
in your home in order to give him or her a chance
at a better life, MARS needs you now.

The MDR1 Mutation Can Kill Your Mini Aussie

Buster was a beautiful red merle MARS rescue dog who died because he carried the mdr1 genetic mutation. Dogs with the mdr1 mutation cannot properly process many medications. Buster suffered neurotoxicity from a commonly prescribed drug. Aussies of all sizes can carry the mdr1 mutation. Is your Mini Aussie at risk?
