Adopting a Mini Aussie from MARS
Individuals or families wishing to adopt a MARS dog should download the form at the bottom of this page. Once the completed Adopter Information form has been submitted, we will try to match you with the best dog for your home as soon as they are available. You MUST complete the Adopter Information form before asking about any specific dog. You will not be considered for any dog before we have your completed form, and the dog you are interested in may have been placed with someone else by that time.
When your Adopter Information form has been processed, MARS will start looking for the right dog for you. We consider adoption requests in the order they are received, but our priority is placing each dog with the person or family who is the best match for that dog. Because of this, it is possible someone submitting an adoption request after you could be matched with a dog before you. Please be patient and keep us informed if your plans change.
When a dog becomes available that seems to be a good match for you, we will call you to discuss the dog. If you are interested in the available dog, we will schedule a home visit with you. A MARS volunteer will visit your home to check on the safety of your property for a dog, and to answer your questions and help you plan for your Miniature Australian Shepherd. MARS reserves the right to refuse an adoption if the home situation or environment is found to be unsafe or incompatible with the needs of the available dog.
After the home visit, we will arrange for you to meet the dog. If all goes well, your MARS Adoption Counselor will help you complete the adoption. MARS does ask an adoption fee for all of our dogs, which varies depending on the age and health of the dog. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered before being placed.
MARS will check your references, answer your questions, and work with you to find the right dog for your life. Preference is given to applications in the area the dog is being fostered, but in special cases we will consider arranging long-distance adoptions. Adopting a dog from MARS is a process that takes time. But the love of the right Mini Aussie is well worth the wait!
