Volunteer with MARS
There are many, many ways you can help MARS - something for all abilities and schedules!
Volunteering with MARS can be as easy as handing out flyers or talking about Mini Aussies at events. Whether you can only give an hour once in a while or you want to foster a dog, we'd love to have your help in saving Mini Aussies. And we can help train you if you're new to dog rescue.
Here are a few jobs we may need help with in your area. Once the forms are completed, follow the mailing instructions at the top of the Volunteer Information Form.
Rescue
- Helping update available dogs on website
- Transporting dogs that need to get somewhere
- Fostering a Mini Aussie in your home
- Counseling Mini Aussie owners that are considering surrendering their dog
- Evaluating dogs in need for behavior and personality
- Mailing out Adopter Packets
- Doing home visits with potential adopters
- Matching dogs with their new homes
- Checking references of adopters and new foster homes
- Photographing adoptable dogs
- Arranging discounted vet care for rescue dogs
- Providing follow up support for adopters
- Microchipping dogs
Spreading the Word
- Distributing flyers to help shelters, humane societies, and animal control officers recognize Mini Aussies
- Distributing flyers at local events
- Creating educational materials for distribution and the website
- Writing newsletter articles
- Desktop publishing
- Mailing out newsletters
Fundraising
- Staffing MARS booth at events
- Distributing flyers at events, dog shows, pet stores, etc.
- Organizing and running local fundraisers
- Soliciting rescue supplies and fundraiser donations from businesses
- Managing online store by creating and selling Mini Aussie items
- Helping with the Mini Aussie Calendar and Photo Contest
- Running a raffle for MARS at a local dog event
- Assisting with an annual auction fundraiser
- Grant writing
